The Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve is situated in the western Tien Shan Mountains within Kyrgyzstan, featuring rugged terrain, alpine lakes, and verdant forests. At its heart lies Sary-Chelek Lake, formed by earthquakes, which stretches across 4 miles and plunges up to 761 feet deep. This biosphere reserve covers approximately 56,000 acres and boasts diverse ecosystems ranging from juniper forests to alpine meadows. Established in 1978, it draws visitors with its picturesque landscapes, unique biodiversity, and cultural significance. The area is home to over 1,000 plant species and rare animals like the snow leopard and Tien Shan brown bear. Visitors are attracted to the reserve for hiking, camping, and observing the region’s rich wildlife.
